Discovering London is most fun on foot

Kennington is perfectly placed for exploring some of the best the city has to offer, starting with the river.

The real joy of staying in Kennington is how much of London opens up the moment you step outside and start walking. The underground and buses are there when you want them, but the city rewards anyone happy to set out on foot.

I always suggest starting along the river. From Kennington it is a short, gentle walk to the Thames, and once you reach the water the rest of the day arranges itself. Head one way for Westminster and the bridges, head the other for the South Bank, the Tate and Borough Market.

Follow the river and you pass the London Eye, the long parade of the South Bank and a string of galleries, gardens and food stalls you would never find from underground. Every bridge is an invitation to cross and see the city from the other side.

There is no need for a plan. Give yourself an afternoon, wear your most comfortable shoes, and let one bridge lead to the next. London is a city made for walking, and Kennington is one of the loveliest places to begin.
